SANTA ANA WILDLIFE REFUGE

Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge is open from sunrise to sunset just 10 minutes south of Alamo. Its 2,088 acres attract 200,000 visitors from across the U.S. and around the world. Over 400 bird and 200 butterfly species put it at the top of U.S. refuges. It has three lakes, rare tropical river forest, 12 miles of trails, three butterfly gardens, a tree top tower and canopy walk, and bird feeders at the well appointed visitor center. Bird walks, tram rides and Rio Grande canoe trips are offered in season. Tel. 956.784.7500

Alamo businesses provide the closest visitor services to Santa Ana N.W.R. The City of Alamo is the official Gateway to Santa Ana N.W.R. Alamo Economic Development Corporation, the City, and Alamo Chamber of Commerce works closely with the refuge and its support group, the Friends of the Wildlife Corridor.
