SANTA ANA WILDLIFE REFUGE
Santa Ana National
Wildlife Refuge is open from sunrise to sunset just 10 minutes
south of Alamo. Its 2,088 acres attract 200,000 visitors from
across the U.S. and around the world. Over 400 bird and 200
butterfly species put it at the top of U.S. refuges. It has
three lakes, rare tropical river forest, 12 miles of trails,
three butterfly gardens, a tree top tower and canopy walk, and
bird feeders at the well appointed visitor center. Bird walks,
tram rides and Rio Grande canoe trips are offered in season.

Alamo businesses provide
the closest visitor services to Santa Ana N.W.R. The City of
Alamo is the official Gateway to Santa Ana N.W.R. Alamo Economic
Development Corporation, the City, and Alamo Chamber of Commerce
works closely with the refuge and its support group, the Friends
